the Giustiniani

Ruskin's dots over the ‘i’ are never precisely placed. The Ruskin Library Transcript T7B reads ‘Guistiniani’ (with variants after the first syllable) here and elsewhere, but it seems reasonable to assume that Ruskin intended to write ‘Giustiniani’.

The transcript reads ‘this Giustiniani’ at Notebook M2 p.33, but ‘the’ seems better, the reference being to the family rather than any particular individual. The reference is to the Palazzi Giustiniani, Dorsoduro 3232, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 40, called by Ruskin the ‘Young Foscari’.
