Palazzo Dario (Dorsoduro 352, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 51), c 1487. First mentioned by Ruskin in relation to ‘magnificent coloured marbles’ at Works, 3.215 [n/a]; for circular ornament, Works, 8.153; as Wall Veil Decoration, Plate 1, Works, 9.33. He assumes it to have been built about 1486, but an earlier date is discussed at Works, 11.255. Considered as an example of the early renaissance school at Works, 11.21. Ruskin’s friend and Venetian archive consultant Rawdon Brown owned the Palazzo Dario 1838-42 and financed a restoration programme in 1838.
See Works, 11.370. Palazzo Dario is listed in Venetian Index.
