Ruskin is here presumably using Venetian postal numbers for the first time. Number 4640, if it still exists, must be near the Palazzo Bembo, Riva del Carbon and S.Marco 4642 at Ramo del Carbon near Pal Dandolo. Lorenzetti (1903) pp.466-7 refers to decorative architectural fragments at San Marco 4640 and cornice at 4635.
