Task B - our answer to question 3

Why is Standard English not being used?

Because the novel is a 1st-person narration on the part of a woman who comes from a working class, Northern Irish background, it needs to be narrated in this marked dialectal form. If the novel had been a 3rd-person narration, no such character-related reason could be given and readers would be much more likely to assume that a political point was being made - the writer would be making a point of not writing in Standard English for some reason.
