More about shared schematic knowledge

Task A – Schematic knowledge about objects

We have schematic knowledge about just about every kind of object we encounter in the real world, as well as quite a few most of us have never experienced directly (e.g. flying saucers, submarines, handcuffs). We will use the dinner fork as a straightforward example.

Select from the set of objects below those which you think count as dinner forks and put them in the ‘fork’ box.

As you do this, write down in as much detail as you can your observations about your schematic assumptions (form and function) for what dinner forks are like. Then click on the ‘Compare’ button to compare your selection and observations with ours.
