The future of social work and social work learning

Lancaster University Social Work Visioning Project

Through a range of activities the Visioning Project has been seeking the views of service users and carers, practitioners from a range of settings, students and employers.

Social Work Practitioners

In order to broaden out the scope of the project, a number of social work practitioners working in all settings and sectors were invited to a series of workshops held in the region. The events offered an opportunity for front-line practitioners to have their voices heard and contribute their thoughts about the future of social work and the opportunities and challenges facing the profession.

Service Users and Carers

Service users and carers already make an important contribution to the delivery of the social work programmes at Lancaster, through input in lectures and workshops, through research and as members of our admissions interview panels. Service users and carers from networks and forums across the region have been contributing their views regarding the future of social work and social work learning.

Social Work Visioning Day

On the 29th March 2012, The Department of Applied Social Science in partnership with CETAD held a Social Work Visioning Day. The day brought together 86 participants, representing the ‘social work system’. Throughout the day those with a stake in social work had opportunities to share opinions, identify commonalities and to discuss what action should be taken to realise their visions for social work.
