171 Glossary of linear system terminology

(A,B,C,D): standard linear system, usually with constant matrices;

amplitude: height of a signal, regarded as a wave;

BIBO: bounded input and bounded output system;

Bode plot: plot of log gain and phase against angular frequency ω;

Closed loop: system with feedback loop;

differentiator: operation of differentiation with respect to time t;

frequency domain: linear system in terms of ω, where s=iω;

frequence response function: transfer function T(s) when s=iω and ω𝐑;

gain: (or amplitude gain) modulus of the transfer function;

integrator: operation of integration with respect to time t, from t=0;

JCF: Jordan canonical form of square matrix;

𝐋^: Laplace transform of L^;

LHP: Open left half plane {z𝐂:z<0};

MIMO: multiple input and multiple output linear system;
