2.11 Tends to

The symbol $\rightarrow$ is read as ‘tends to’. It is used in the contexts:

$x\rightarrow\infty$ means $x$ becomes large and positive;

$x\rightarrow-\infty$ means $x$ becomes large and negative;

$x\rightarrow a+$ means that $x$ approaches $a$ from the right;

$x\rightarrow a-$ means that $x$ approaches $a$ from the left

$x\rightarrow a$ means that $x$ approaches $a$ from either side.
