Welcome
Welcome to the Lancaster/Uganda Friends Writing Project website and Writers Gallery. The project is a collaboration between the Centre for Transcultural Writing and Research at Lancaster University, UK, and Femrite Women Writers Association in Kampala, Uganda. It was funded by a generous donation from Lancaster University Friends Fund.
The project builds upon the experience of a previous mentoring scheme for African writers – Crossing Borders – and links twelve women writers with four mentors who are all pursuing doctoral study in Creative Writing at Lancaster University. The project aims to engage in writing development through dialogic eLearning methods and to promote cultural exchange through that process.
The project was devised and is directed by Graham Mort and the website was designed and built by Kate Horsley. The project began in October 2010 and will end in March 2011. The Gallery contains photographs and profiles of all mentors and participants and will eventually feature an anthology of new creative writing from the Ugandan women writers.
