The summer after I finished my studies in German Language, Literature and Philosophy, I found myself in Cambridge doing an English course to refresh and improve my language skills. I had been to the UK before, but never for a long period of time. I remember thinking "Yes, I could live here."

Since then, my job took me first to sunny Seville in Spain and later to the University of Turin in Italy - always interrupted by shorter or longer pitstops back in my hometown Cologne.

In 2015 I returned to the UK, this time to Wales. For the past 3 years I lived and worked in Cardiff, where I taught German to undergraduates of all levels in the degree programme as well as extracurricular classes.

My new position as a DAAD-Lektorin brought me to Lancaster in September 2018. DAAD stands for Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Service) and in this function, I will be the person to advise you on scholarships the DAAD offers to undergraduate students studying German.

But the biggest part of my job at Lancaster University is language teaching - most of our German students will know me by now as I teach across the years and modules. Getting to know people from all over the world and seeing them unite in their love for languages and cultures is one of the best things about my job. And while I strive to help my students to develop their language skills the best they can, I constantly learn from them and get inspired by them as well.

I am excited to finally discover the North here at Lancaster University –with recruiting over 80 students in the first year this is a promising start of the academic year and I look very much forward to getting to know all of our (old and new) students better and to tackling this academic year together.
