Festival of Social Science 2024

Lancaster has been able to access ESRC funding to support activities during this year’s Festival of Social Science (FoSS). We are therefore inviting expressions of interest from researchers for up to £1,000 to support a series of events during the festival period (between Sat 19 Oct and Sat 9 Nov 2024). Events can be in person, online or hybrid.

If you are interested in running an event, please read through the Event Leader Pack, the guidance below and the Event Leader Job Description BEFORE spending time completing the Expression of Interest form.

Please also consider attending the mandatory training sessions (see below for details) in May before submitting your Expression of Interest, as the content of the training may inform your event planning.

Festival Theme

The Festival theme for 2024 is ‘our digital lives’. Events on this theme can be on any aspect of the relationship between humans and digital technology. This could include (but is not limited to):

  • Specific opportunities, benefits or threats to society, particular groups, or individuals from digital technologies and how we can take advantage of or tackle these.
  • Teaching and developing digital skills for different groups and at different stages of life (for example in school, in the workplace, for older people)
  • What life might look like in the future as a result of technological developments and how we feel about this.
