The Lancaster University Africa Research Hub is a community of over 100 scholars across disciplines such as law, politics, philosophy and religion, history, environment, biomedical and life sciences, medicine, accounting, and finance, and many more.

At its core, we are committed to knowledge sharing and exchange in a way that fosters an environment for collaborative work between Lancaster University and African scholars, institutions and organisations. Through partnerships in Africa, the aim is to facilitate real change to lives and livelihoods.

Research

The Africa Research Hub is guided by the principles of respectful and equal partnership in the co-design of research with partners and communities in Africa. We are committed to an inclusive research approach that identifies new strategies, plans and aspirations of building an Africa-focused research environment.

Our key goals are to:

  • Facilitate collaborations between departments at Lancaster University
  • Facilitate collaborative research between Lancaster University and African researchers
  • Maximise opportunities with external networks
  • Provide networking opportunities for the exchange of knowledge about Africa-related research

Engagement

At its core, the aspiration is to ensure our work is relevant, active, and supportive. We aim to develop and implement strategies to engage with policymakers, funders, stakeholders and the public. Our priorities for engagement are:

  • Promoting research-policy collaborations with government departments and policy agencies
  • Supporting the development and delivery of engagement projects that harness and capitalise on cross-institutional strengths and partnerships
  • Disseminating and communicating research. Delivery of networking events

Education

Through educational activities and initiatives, one of the key aims of the Africa Research Hub is capacity building across disciplines, while forging partnerships with other international organisations that share the same objective of fostering the growth of research and education in Africa.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Training and mentoring researchers from different educational backgrounds
  • Advancing methodologies that draw more from Africa's communities' perspectives for a more inclusive curriculum
  • Fellowship opportunities
