Unless you have mitigating circumstances, changing ceremony is not possible. If you feel your circumstances are mitigating, please email ceremonies@lancaster.ac.uk.
No, Lancaster University does not charge for graduand or guest tickets. You will, however, need to book a graduation gown for a fee with our supplier Graduation Attire.
Capacity in the Great Hall is limited to abide by health, safety and fire regulations. We strongly advise all graduands to register as early as possible after receiving their invitation to attend a graduation ceremony. Graduand seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until the capacity in the Great Hall has been reached.
We're looking forward to celebrating your achievements with you, but please be aware that capacity within the Great Hall is limited. If you're put on a waiting list, you are still eligible to attend a graduation ceremony, and we will be in touch with you after registration closes on the 11th November with an alternative option should there still be no spaces available in your allocated session. In the meantime we encourage all students to hire their graduation robes as you will be able to amend your booking to reflect your graduation session.
Guest and graduand seating is in separate areas in the Hall and the ceremony is carefully choreographed to bring students through in a specific order. It is not possible to use a spare guest ticket to graduate.
When you open the registration form via the link inviting you to register, please select the option ‘defer attendance’ from the drop-down menu on the first page. We’ll then record your request to defer and will be in touch ahead of your next available ceremony. Undergraduate degrees are awarded in July and postgraduate taught degrees are awarded in December. PhDs are awarded at both ceremony sessions.
If you already have registered for your ceremony but are no longer able to attend, please inform us at ceremonies@lancaster.ac.uk.
If you are not present at your ceremony, your name will still appear in the graduation programme. You will need to get in touch with the Registry Office to inform them that you wish to receive your graduation certificate by post.
You need to be seated 30 minutes before the ceremony starts. Once the Great Hall doors are closed you will not be able to enter; please go to the Ticket Office within the Great Hall foyer for advice.
Please visit our Graduation Day webpage which provides details on what you need to do in the ceremonies and see further information below. Once the ceremony has started, follow the directions of the marshals who will lead graduands through the proceedings including showing you where to walk and stand.
Students are presented by name and type of degree only. We do not announce the class of degree attained, nor is it printed in the degree day programme.
A ceremony normally lasts around 1 hour 15 minutes and takes place in the Great Hall.
Your Graduation Day is a special occasion to celebrate your academic achievements with your peers, family and friends. To enable all of those you hold dear to experience and enjoy the event live wherever they are, all the ceremonies are professionally filmed by our official supplier First Sight Media and broadcast live in various venues around campus as well as on our website.
The footage is recorded and will be available for replay on the Lancaster University YouTube channel. You will also be able to purchase online a DVD of your graduation ceremony on I am a graduate.com
Please note that by registering and attending your graduation ceremony on campus, you and your guests are giving consent for your image to appear on photographs and film. Guests and graduands are not allowed to film the ceremony on any device.
The University will hold and use these images in line with our privacy policy and GDPR guidance.
Guests can take still photos during the ceremony, but not videos. Please refrain from using the flash and stay in your seats to take the photos so that you don’t obstruct the views of others.
All graduands will be photographed on the stage and these images will be available from Creative Studio.
No, you must leave any personal items, such as handbags, with your guests. We will only permit phones for the purposes of ticket checks as you will have been sent a QR code to scan. Larger items must be left in the cloakroom in The Roundhouse (Confucius Institute).
