Roundtable at the Labour Party Conference 2024 that will bring together policy-makers, academics and employers to discuss how pay reporting reforms can be introduced in a way which maximises their impact, and how wider employment policies can support efforts to close pay gaps for groups facing structural inequality in the labour market

A new Labour Government has come to power stating they will ‘make work pay’’ and Rachel Reeves has vowed to the close the gender pay gap “once and for all”.

In July 2024, the Labour Government put forward the Draft Equality (Race and Disability) Bill. For the first time, ethnicity and disability pay reporting will be made mandatory for large employers. However, the experience of existing gender pay reporting introduced in 2017 shows that tackling pay gaps is a complex and long-term challenge that needs buy-in from policy-makers and senior leaders across organisations.

Given pay gaps for women, disabled people and workers from ethnic minority groups have stubbornly persisted, how can the new Government make significant progress during this Parliament?

This roundtable will bring together policy-makers, academics and employers to discuss how pay reporting reforms can be introduced in a way which maximises their impact, and how wider employment policies can support efforts to close pay gaps for groups facing structural inequality in the labour market.

Attendees include Dr Anneliese Dodds MP (Minister for Women and Equalities), Sarah Owen MP (Chair, Women and Equalities Select Committee) and senior representatives from Trussell Trust, TUC, Young Women’s Trust, Women’s Budget Group, the Co-operative Group and PwC.
