 | There is only one abbreviation, the sign for et. It looks like a 7 with a stroke through it. We have seen the '7-shaped' and abbreviation in King Alfred's Preface to the Cura Pastoralis, that time without a cross-stroke. It is an ancient form of shorthand. |
