PRESS RELEASE FEBRUARY 2012
National Black Writers & Publishers Conference
Manchester UK, 24 March 2012
Those who love literature won’t want to miss out on the 6th National Black Writers Conference, taking place on Saturday 24th March 2012 at Zion Arts Centre, Stretford Rd, Manchester. Hosted by leading writing development agency, Cultureword, the conference is open to anyone with an interest in Black & Asian writing and publishing.
This informative and exciting day will provide panels drawing on published writers and industry professionals from the UK’s most innovatory publishers and agents, including Peepal Tree Press, Frances Lincoln Press, Penguin/Cultureword, Tamarind Press, FlippedEye to name a few.
Get an in-depth look at how key black and Asian writers got publishing deals, and how major spoken word artists developed their careers. Questions posed include: what do publishers look for in the manuscripts they consider for publication? What are the current and future trends in the publishing world? How will E-books transform the industry? How do new poets need to prepare themselves for spoken word events?
The day’s programme includes two informal ‘salon’ sessions looking at social media and writers, and Reading Habits of Writers as well as lots of opportunities to network. Stimulate your mind throughout the day, then in the evening kick back and feed your soul with the legendary Speakeasy band of poets, together with some top notch national artists including Kei Miller and Mark Mace Smith.
The conference takes place on Saturday 24th March 2012 from 10.30 am – 5.30 pm at the Zion Arts Centre, 335 Stretford Rd, Hulme, Manchester M15 5ZA (10 minutes from Manchester city centre). The evening’s entertainment will also take place at the same venue. Early booking is strongly recommended.
