August 2013 – Cornelia Grabner’s trip to Mexico. Cornelia writes: Mexico is a cultural crossroads: Spanish is spoken as well as 68 indigenous languages; the mestizo culture exists side-by-side with indigenous cultures. Immigrants from all over Europe arrived in Mexico since the conquest, and Mexico granted political asylum to many refugees from the fascist dictatorships in Europe since the 1940s, as well as to many refugees from the dictatorship in the Southern Cone in the 1970s and 1980s. Among them were many writers, for example the Spanish poets León Felipe and Luis Cernuda, and the German novelist Anna Seghers, to name only very few examples….read more.

April-May 2012 – Graham Mort’s trip to Kampala. Graham Mort’s trip to Kampala in 2012 was funded by Faculty of Arts and Social sciences at Lancaster University with the intention of extending work already carried out with the Femrite Women Writers Association. As well as carrying out research into the presence of Ugandan writers on the secondary schools curriculum, he was there to run editorial workshops for writers at Femrite and initiate discussions about literature development with the British Council and other bodies…read more.

July 2011 – Graham Mort at the ‘Reading Uganda’ festival. Following the Lancaster/Uganda Friends Writing Project, Graham Mort visited Kampala for the week 4th- 8th July as Guest of Honour at the FEMRITE ‘Reading Uganda’ literature festival in Kampala, where he was featured in The Observer newspaper. The week included the book launch for FEMRITE’s latest anthology Never Too Late, a bonfire poetry night featuring performances by local poets, musicians and storytellers, readings in Ugandan secondary schools by contemporary writers and Graham’s two-day creative writing workshop focusing on poetry and short stories.
