About Us
Associate Membership
The Centre is now developing an Associate Membership scheme, which will be introduced in October 2012. The purpose of the scheme is to make writers and academics with an interest in transcultural issues more visible to each other internationally and to extend the possibilities for networking and collaboration. Membership will be free for the first year. Read more.
Research and Events
The activities of the Centre stimulate and explore creative process – its definition through textual production, mobility, publication, transmission, adaptation, re-writing and translation – and its theoretical and cultural context. Since its inception in 2006, CTWR has raised the profile of a range of pre-existing transcultural and intercultural research activities, including Crossing Borders, Radiophonics, Moving Manchester and Trans-Scriptions.
This year, our planned events include a new series of Trans-Scriptions, entitled ‘Writing for Liberty’, which is being funded by a generous donation from Lancaster University Friends Fund. We will also be creating a searchable archive of our current resources, enabled by Lancaster’s FASS Capital Expenditure Fund.
Postgraduate Study
in Lancaster’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
The members of the Centre for Transcultural Writing and Research believe in a research community that includes postgraduate students as well as members of staff. Several departments within the Faculty offer postgraduate teaching that has a strong intercultural dimension, recruiting students from very diverse cultural backgrounds, and their research connects to a panorama of writings linking issues of location, migration, diaspora and intercultural exchange. We want to encourage applications from students at both MA and PhD level. Read More about Postgraduate Studies at Lancaster.
