About me

Harini Jayaraman – Student at STOR-i, Lancaster University

Hello!

I was born and brought up in India. I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Pure Mathematics at the University of Madras, Chennai, India. With a few modules from Statistics and Operations Research (OR) in my undergraduate degree, I was keen on exploring the applied mathematics field. I worked as High School Mathematics teacher while preparing myself for a research-oriented career in this field. Teaching experience motivated my research ambition further and I pursued a Master’s degree in Statistics at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, prior to joining STOR-i.

My experience at the Master’s level in UCD, learning the practical implications of Mathematics and statistics persuaded my interest in further research opportunities.

I was especially drawn to STOR-i due to its collaborative approach with industry partners and the chance to solve practical problems. I am thrilled to have joined STOR-i and looking forward to making the most of it.

In my free time, I love to cook, read and enjoy watching cricket.

I am a trained classical singer and I enjoy listening to music and going to concerts by my favourite singers. Being from India, where you could find diverse languages in every state, I have the urge to learn new languages occasionally. During that zone, I love to watch shows or films in those languages to kick my interest further. I also love travelling. Fortunately, I have been able to travel to a lot of places in India and a few countries in Asia. Exploring Europe has always been on my bucket list and I hope to travel soon!
