Hello, I’m Graham – welcome to my website, where you can find information about my background, research and contact information.

I have very recently joined the STOR-i Centre for Doctoral Training and have so far taken a number of courses in Statistics and Operational Research, covering topics such as statisical inference, probability, simulation and optimisation. I studied Physics at Sussex, graduating in 2015 – since then I have predominantly been working in Operational Research in the UK Civil Service.

I found life in the working world to be quite different from university, in good and bad ways – the problems to be tackled at work were very real which I found motivating, but also very messy! There was the opportunity to work on many different projects and you never really knew what was coming next, but at the same time deadlines were often tight and expectations from colleagues could change quickly. It is interesting to now dive back into the world of academia. While my programming skills were kept finely tuned at work, my maths skills became rusty, so I’ve had to rack my brains a bit as this term starts for some old maths tricks that I haven’t used for a while.

This year the STOR-i programme will introduce the new cohort to a number of interesting topics in Statistics and Operational Research, and we will then decide on an avenue to explore further in the following PhD years.

Watch this space for more updates as I progress through the STOR-i programme.
