Targets for 14-3-3 Proteins in Pathogen Signalling

We and other groups have identified protein-protein interactions between 14-3-3s and a variety of proteins known to be involved in signalling during plant pathogen resistance responses. These are illustrated below in a very simplified model of the resistance response of tomato plants to the fungal pathogen Cladosporium fulvum. We are currently investigating the functional significance of these interactions during the resistance response.
Key:
Avr9 = C. fulvum race 9 avirulence elicitor peptide
Cf9 = tomato resistance gene involved in the recognition of Avr9
CDPK = Calmodulin domain protein kinase / Calcium-dependent protein kinase
MAPK = Mitogen-activated protein kinase homologue
MAPKK/MAPKKK = MAPK kinase/MAPKK kinase
NR = Never-ripe, a tomato ethylene receptor
CTR1 = MAPKKK invovled in ethylene signalling
EREBPs = ethylene response element binding proteins
JA = Jasmonic acid
