Commencing on Tuesday 1 April, Sport Lancaster is supporting St John’s Hospice by taking part in the 50-50-500 challenge.

St John’s Hospice is a local charity that provides an in-patient ward, a hospice-at-home service, Clinical Nurse Specialists, bereavement support, and many other vital services to patients and families.

To begin the 50-day challenge, Sport Lancaster staff will be climbing 8,848 meters, the height of Mount Everest on the Stairmaster, alongside a homemade cake sale on Tuesday 1 April 2025.

An ongoing £1 ticket raffle will be hosted in Reception over the 50 days, with two hampers up for the taking, and a book table on display for customers to take home a book after donating to the cause.

On Monday 28 April, the team will embark on a challenge to swim the English channel and back, 44 miles, over 14 hours in the Sport Lancaster Swimming Pool.

More physical challenges completed by the Sport Lancaster team will be announced over the next 50 days, where sponsorship is welcomed at the 50-50-500 JustGiving donation link.

Melinda Brookes, Operations Manager (Customer Experience), said:

“St John’s Hospice provides outstanding care to people with life-limiting illnesses throughout North Lancashire, South Lakes, and parts of North Yorkshire.

By taking part in these events, we hope to engage the local community and encourage others to donate in any way they can. Every little contribution helps make a big difference.”

All proceeds from the 50-50-500 challenge will go directly to the hospice and support their mission.
