PhD Supervision Interests

My project focuses on how cultural circuits of importing and exporting fit with local media production cultures. More specifically, I focus on South Korean cultural flow (known as 'Hallyu'/ 'Korean Wave'), to investigate how pop culture travels, how it becomes transnationally consumed and locally encoded, across inter-Asian cultural networks. I explore the domestic and transnational work experience of Taiwanese media workers, their professional and national identities, and how these in turn shape the production processes of Taiwanese reality television.
