Rachel Odufuwa
PhD student, Associate LecturerResearch Overview
My research explores how equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives within UK Higher Education are experienced by Black women. It examines this by using Sista circles and Sista-to-Sista conversations, innovative research methods designed to reflect key epistemic qualities of Black women’s ways of knowing. More specifically, the research uniquely centres (re) Sista-nce, both illuminating how Black women resist their erasure from UK Higher Education EDI agendas, and the methods challenging the marginalisation of Black women’s ways of knowing in qualitative inquiry. Outside of my academic work, I have been involved in activism aimed at promoting racial and gendered equality within UK Higher Education; for example, I successfully worked with my university to introduce the 100 Black Women Professors NOW Programme.
