Our Mission

Lancaster University hosts one of the UK’s strongest nuclear science & technology research communities. We have expertise across the fission and fusion fuel cycles, nuclear medicine, nuclear security and safeguards and the economics and social acceptability of nuclear technologies.

Nuclear technologies are at the forefront of strategies for growth, investment, and innovation in the UK. For example, nuclear energy solutions are critical to the UK’s strategy for a low-carbon and secure energy supply. However, the realisation of the ambition of nuclear technologies is not guaranteed – important multi- and inter-disciplinary research and technology challenges must be addressed. The mission of Nuclear Lancaster is to be a platform to support world-leading research at Lancaster University across multiple disciplines, to ensure the full potential of nuclear technologies is realised.
