Be Connected
Connecting with people, feelings of closeness, being valued by others, is a basic human need. Social relationships are critical for promoting wellbeing and for acting as a buffer against mental ill health for people of all ages. Positive relationships can help you to build a sense of self-worth, a sense of belonging, opportunities to share experiences, gain and give emotional support.
You are part of the innovation community here at Lancaster University. You can engage with the businesses around you, come to events at Lancaster University, talk to our experienced business development managers, and make supportive connections.
There are also lots of groups, networks, societies and clubs locally and regionally that you can join to make new connections and improve your wellbeing, and we'll help promote any social clubs you want to start.
If you feel like joining something is too large a step for you at the moment, you can also make small changes in your life which can help you connect or re-connect to people at work and at home.
Small steps….
- Take time each day to connect with your family or friends
- Arrange to catch up with friends or a colleague you haven’t see for a while
- Think about how technology affects your wellbeing- check out wellbeing apps, or search for an online community.
- Pick up the phone! It's easy to get into the habit of only ever texting, messaging or emailing people
