Dr Naval Singh

Lecturer in Chemical Engineering

Profile

Dr Naval Singh joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Lancaster University as a Lecturer. Naval received his Master degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, India and Lehigh University, USA. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Loughborough University, UK followed by postdoctoral experience in collaboration with CNRS France, where his research was focused on the production and manipulation of functional particles in micro-scale flows for the investigation of their fundamental properties and behaviour. He devised a novel trapping mechanism that allows rapid and reversible accumulation of sub-micron particles within dead-end structures of innovative microfluidic devices for the development of energy-efficient and sustainable solutions and point-of-care diagnostics.

In 2021, Naval joined the University of Manchester as a research associate and worked on an inter-disciplinary research focused on the interface of experimental biomimetic microfluidics, soft matter, and biophysics involving a team of engineers, physicists, biologists, mathematicians, and clinicians from the University of Edinburgh, McMaster University, Canada, and St Mary’s Hospital. The work focused on the suspension of microcapsules which can flow and deform like red blood cells to elucidate the haemodynamics in complex media. Naval’s research interests lie in the field of (bio)microfluidics, microfabrication, polymer thin film instabilities, interfacial science, and soft matter transport towards the development of applications in healthcare technologies, food and energy sectors.
