Chemistry with Industrial Placement degree programme receives RSC accreditation

We are delighted to announce the Royal Society of Chemistry have accredited our recently created Chemistry with Industrial Placement MChem degree programme. This joins our three established Chemistry degree programmes – Chemistry BSc, Chemistry MChem and Chemistry with Study Aboard MChem – as being accredited.
Royal Society of Chemistry degree accreditation is an independently assessed mark of quality, showing we can offer a distinctive Lancaster flavour to our degree programmes whilst ensuring we are properly preparing our students for the needs of employers, and are developing the key skills, knowledge and hands-on experience that all chemistry students should have. It also ensures that what we offer in our degrees is kept current and reflects evolving best practices in the field.
Dr Nicholas Evans, Head of Department, says: “I am proud of our work to get the Chemistry with Industrial Placement MChem degree off the ground. The award of accreditation by the Royal Society of Chemistry reflects the efforts of colleagues in the detailed preparation of new modules and support content, as well as the quality of Chemistry teaching here at Lancaster University.”
The first cohort of MChem with Industrial Placement students – who have transferred onto the degree programme during their studies – will be going on their industrial placements in Summer 2025.
Dr M. Paz Munoz-Herranz, Industrial Placement Coordinator says: “Our MChem with Industrial Placement degree has been specifically designed to allow students the opportunity to spend the final year on placement doing a research project in an industry setting. We believe this arrangement benefits both the student and the placement host.”
The course is already proving popular, with over a third of our current second-year Chemistry students registered on the Chemistry with Industrial Placement MChem programme.
