Abstract:

Dr Matt Storey, Head of Storage and Virtualisation in ISS, will take us through the infrastructure available to researchers at Lancaster University. From physical to virtual and mass scale to small prototype environments. Lancaster has a range of infrastructure available to support research including browser-accessible virtual machines, the High-End Computing Cluster, and file storage where you can store and access large data sets in an efficient manner. Dr Storey will describe these using previous research projects as examples of what and how we can leverage such environments to help a project move from prototype to reality. We will also explore other aspects of research compute from support in writing proposals involving IT resources and what happens at the end of the project as well as helping to address security requirements.
