This is too difficult!

Finding a new perspective is very difficult and takes a lot of practice. The ideas outlined here might not be enough.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that helps people to find different perspectives on their problems. To find out more about CBT and how to get it, go to ‘Module 10 – Treatment Options’ and look at the links in the Resource Directory.

Some people find it really hard to challenge their thinking, and just feel that they cannot find an alternative perspective.

If this is the case, then you might want to try a different approach called ‘Mindfulness’.

Mindfulness is a state of being in which you are fully aware of the present moment, accepting of how things are. This is done without making any judgements about the situation or your reaction to it. There is no attempt to change the situation (or your thoughts), but rather to find a way to accept how things are right now. There are many different techniques that can be used to learn how to become mindful, many of which involve breathing exercises and meditation.

Please see the following website for more information on mindfulness:

If you want to find out more about mindfulness, try the links in the ‘Support’ section in this module. [full]There might be other relatives in the REACT GROUP who use mindfulness and can share their experiences with you.

Or you could talk to the REACT SUPPORTER about mindfulness.
