Managing Stress – Doing Things Differently

The Impact of Psychosis

Chronic health problems (physical and mental) in an individual can affect other members of the family and close friends. This is also true for psychosis or bipolar disorder. The specific impact may depend on the severity of the health problem and on the nature of your relationship with the person.

Here, we describe some of the ways that you can learn to recognise and manage stress associated with being a relative or carer.

Most of the time, these strategies should help you feel less stressed. However, if you experience severe episodes of anxiety or depression then you may need to seek further professional help. Information about what kinds of help are available and how to access them is provided in ‘Module 10 -Treatment Options’.
