Support Recovery
The process of recovery is often challenging and complex. It often involves a balance between coming to terms with past bipolar experiences, whilst also investing in new personal goals and relationships. Showing compassion towards your relative and offering support with new recovery goals can be very helpful.
You do need to look after yourself too. Supporting someone with bipolar disorder can be stressful. To be able to cope with the ups and downs of this journey, you have to take time to look after yourself. ‘Module 7 – Managing stress (doing things differently)’ and ‘Module 8 – Managing stress (thinking differently)’ offer some suggestions about how to do this.
