And margarett ffell had a vision off a man in a white hatt
yt shoulde come & confounde ye preists before my comeinge
Into those parts & a great dreade there was amongst y:e preists
& professors concerneinge ye | man in leather breeches
And another man had a vision of mee yt a man in leather
briches shoulde come & confounde ye preists: & this mans
preist was ye first yt was confounded & conuinct.
And on ye first day I went to Lancaster & had a great meetinge
in ye street of souldÿers & people & declared ye worde of life &
ye euerlastinge truth to ym & shewed ym: there teacher Xt Jesus
& all ye traditions yt they had liued in: & all there worshipps
& religions & yt there profession was good for nothinge yt
liued out of ye life & powr of y:m yt gaue forth ye Scriptures
& soe turned ym: to ye light of Xt ye heauenly man & to
ye spiritt of Gd in there owne heartes & where they might
finde Gd & Xt & his kingdome & knowe him there teacher:
And soe in ye afternoone I went vppe to ye steeplehouse att Lan
=caster: & when I had declared ye truth to both preist & people
& shewed ym ye deceiptes they lived in & ye powr & spiritt of God
yt they wanted: they haled mee out & stoned mee alonge ye
streets till I came to Jo: Lawsons house
And one ye markett day before, I spoake through ye markett
in ye dreadefull powr of God & declared ye day of ye Ld to ym
* & agst all there deceitfull merchandise & preacht righteousness
& truth wch they shoulde all walk & liue in & follow: after &
* where they might finde ye spiritt of God to guide y:m to it; &
seuerall people came to my lodgeinge & many was conuinct
there & standes to this day: & a meetinge there was setled in y:e powr
of God wch| stands to this day:
And another first day I went to another steeplehouse by ye
waters sÿde to one preist Whiteheade & declared ye truth
to ye preist & people in ye dreadefull power of God: & there
was a doctor came to mee whoe was soe full of envy
& saide I hee coulde finde in my his hearte to runn mee through with

and at last I held up my coat, and said, ‘Here is my
leather breeches which frightens all your priests and professors’.
And Margaret Fell had a vision of a man in a white hat
that should come and confound the priests, before my coming
into those parts; and a great dread there was amongst the priests and professors concerning the | man in leather breeches
And another man had a vision of me, that a man in leather
breeches should come and confound the priests: and this man’s
priest was the first that was confounded and convinced.| And
on the first day I went to Lancaster and had a great meeting
in the street of soldiers and people, and declared the word of life and
the everlasting truth to them, and showed them their teacher Christ Jesus;| and all the traditions that they had lived in, and all their worships
and religions, and that their profession was good for nothing that
lived out of the life and power of them that gave forth the Scriptures;
and so turned them to the light of Christ, the heavenly man, and to
the spirit of God in their own hearts, and where they might
find God and Christ and his kingdom and know him their teacher.
And so in the afternoon I went up to the steeplehouse at Lan-
caster: and when I had declared the truth to both priest and people
and showed them the deceits they lived in, and the power and spirit of God| that they wanted, they haled me out and stoned me along the
streets till I came to John Lawson’s house.
And on the market day before, I spoke through the market
in the dreadful power of God, and declared the day of the Lord to them,
and against all their deceitful merchandise, and preached righteousness
and truth which they should all walk and live in and follow after; and
where they might find the spirit of God to guide them to it; and
several people came to my lodging, and many was convinced there and stands to this day; a meeting there was settled in the power of God
which | stands to this day.
And another first day I went to another steeplehouse by the
water’s side to one priest Whitehead, and declared the truth
to the priest and people in the dreadful power of God; and there
was a doctor came to me who was so full of envy,
and said he could find in his heart to run me through with
