Sedbergh

Sedbergh lies on the River Rawthey, and at the southern edge of the Howgill Fells. It offers a variety of routes into promising territory. Eastward Garsdale leads into Wensleydale. Westward lies Kendal and the Lake District. To the south is Dentdale, and following the river westward you come to the confluence of the Rawthey and the Lune, which leads down the Lune Valley ultimately to Lancaster. Borrats (home of Gervase Benson), Brigflatts (where Richard Robinson lived), Draw-Well (home of John Blaykling), and Crosslands (home of John Audland) are all within healthy walking distance.
Fox’s ministry in the North West began in this area. At Whitsun he preached in Sedbergh, in St Andrew’s churchyard. Firbank Fell, the place of the great meeting and ‘Fox’s Pulpit’, is just to the north.
