Kendal: Castle Dairy (Wildmangate)

The oldest surviving house in Kendal, probably 14th-century. In the 1560s it was updated for local dignitary Anthony Garnett. ‘Dairy’ is probably a folk-etymology of dowry, ‘dower-house’ for the Barons of Kendal.  The interior is extremely well preserved. Note the massive chimney.
