It is not known exactly from which angle Fox first saw Pendle Hill. The image above is the
classic viewpoint, taken from the A683 between Gisburn and Nelson. The last place he mentions by name is Bradford,
but after that he and Farnsworth passed through ye Country preachinge repentance to ye people, calling at
a market town (unspecified) in Derbyshire and a country house (unspecified). There are many routes by which
he and his companions might have arrived at Pendle Hill. He could have passed via Rochdale and Bacup down
what is now the A671; via Halifax and Hebden Bridge by The Long Causeway; or to the north and east via Haworth
and Wycoller into Colne. All these are marked as roads on the 1793 road maps by Cary. The last two provide
stunning distant views of Pendle from the heights.
