Sizergh Castle from the Road North
In the middle distance, Sizergh Castle, home of the Stricklands, looking much as it must have done when Fox passed by: a massive pele-tower with 16th-century crenellated additions. The Stricklands of Sizergh were influential landowners, but also both Royalists and Catholics, and in 1649 Sir Thomas, who had been knighted on the field at Edgehill, was fined the huge sum of £308.10 against his estate for his deliquency.
