About the conference
The North Wales Young Researchers Conference (NWYRC) competition is an opportunity for AS and A-level students interested in all areas of STEM to take part in an actual research conference. You will join together in your passion to communicate your chosen topic among your peers and to the general public. Based on actual research conferences which take place across the globe, NWYRC consists of a theme and an abstract round which selects participants to compete in the final afternoon event where you will present your topic. The theme for 2024 is Technology of the Future.
What will life look like in 5, 10, 50 years? What breakthrough ideas of today will become the norm of tomorrow? From entertainment technology to life-saving medical applications or environmentally impactful science, how we live day to day will certainly change. This is your chance to tell us how. Perhaps you already have a passion or hobby that is desperately in need of a new technology, or maybe there is a technology that is used plentifully in one industry but would also perfectly fit another.
You will become the researcher, understand a breakthrough idea, and communicate your newly developed expert knowledge of how this could impact the future world and what it would take for your technology to achieve everyday use. The idea must have an existing scientific basis, however, the rest is up to you! You will gain essential research and science communication skills for university applications and STEM job interviews as well as have the opportunity to attend a conference and the chance to win prizes.
