In January 2022 Pentland Centre Director Jan Bebbington took part in a ‘academic empathy’ session organised by the European Accounting Association. The motivation for these sessions are to find common ground between researchers who are interested in similar topics and whom come from different research traditions to address those topics. The empathy session focused on the practice of sustainability reporting – a practice that is common place for larger corporations across the globe. There are, however, many ways to understand what these reports represent and how various stakeholders use/don’t use the reports. In this empathy session Jan was in conversation with Hans Christensen from the University of Chicago.
