The Pentland Centre is holding a seminar exploring the potential impact on business and sustainability of due diligence requirements with the aim of building members capacity to understand and conduct research in this area.

During the summer, the EU passed its Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) which requires member states to take its principles into national law. There are several countries that already have due diligence laws, with the Directive providing the impetus for wider adoption of such approaches. Around 5,300 companies in the EU and 800 companies outside of the EU will eventually be governed under the Acts passed in response to the Directive. Due diligence laws require corporations to govern their supply chains with respect to human rights and environmental requirements.

We are fortunate that Professor Miriam Wilhelm (https://www.wu.ac.at/en/prodmanengl/team/miriam-wilhelm) will join us virtually during the seminar to share her perspective on the EU Directive. We also have a visiting professor, Carlos Larrinaga, from the University of Burgos who has done some work in this area. Mark Stevenson from Management Science will also be at the seminar.
