Event Details
The Pentland Centre is hosting a workshop on Accounting for Carbon on Upland Livestock Farms, exploring how carbon accounting can be integrated with environmental and social factors to support net zero meat production and sustainable upland farming.
The aim of this workshop is to foster discussion and deepen understanding of carbon accounting in livestock farming. The session will explore how carbon accounting methodologies can be integrated with environmental and social factors to create a fair and balanced approach to net zero meat production.
This workshop is part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project between Lake District Farmers (LDF) and Lancaster University (Lancaster Environment Centre and The Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business). The project aims to support Cumbrian upland farms by highlighting the benefits of livestock production in regenerating natural environments while sustaining a viable meat industry.
With reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) on livestock farms being a key challenge, the workshop will explore how carbon accounting can measure whole-farm and product GHG emissions while balancing mitigation and carbon removal efforts. The goal is to ensure a just transition to net zero meat production, where all stakeholders have an opportunity to contribute to the discussion.
The workshop will be held in George Fox LT 5 from 11:00 to 17:00.
