Cross-cutting capability: Transition and Transformation

This is a cross-cutting capability that fosters practice-based and conceptual understandings of when and how change arises in sustainability understanding or performance. It encompasses applied research, business development, knowledge transfer partnerships and other projects that seek to understand transition and transformation in different settings. Indeed, a variety of perspectives and settings are likely to yield a wider understanding of the dynamics of change that sustainability in business is seeking.

  • Longevity and Resilience

    An emerging area of work which investigates how longstanding organisations navigate change, and the factors that provide them with the resilience to deal with volatility.

  • Sustainability Interventions Research

    This area of work integrates insights from place-based sustainability innovations, transitions or transformations in such a way that knowledge and understanding is available for others to draw from to inform their own practices.

  • Lake District Farmers Knowledge Transfer Partnership

    A Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Lake District Farmers and Lancaster Environment Centre, focused on how farmers can move towards net-zero meat production.

  • Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship (SeaBOS)

    This project, led by the Stockholm Resilience Centre, has identified and works in partnership with ‘keystone actors’ in the seafood industry. In this way it has developed a unique interaction between researchers and nine of the world's largest seafood companies.
