Pendle lunchtime talk - 'Project Wild Gambia' 7th May 12.30 Pendle bar

Their director, Dr Roy Armstrong will take you through some of their amazing experiences, including finding some of the world’s rarest animals (including one thought to be extinct since last seen in 1870!). PWG has made many exciting discoveries and Dr Armstrong will talk you through several examples including how they are working to save some of the world’s rarest monkeys, dolphins and crocodiles.

He’ll also share amusing experiences of the pitfalls of working in rural Africa and running more than 40 student field courses

On a more serious note, he’ll outline the efforts PWG is employing to relieve poverty in one of the world’s poorest countries through the development of eco-tourism and community projects.

After the talk, there’ll be an opportunity to discuss how you and Pendle can help some of the world’s rarest animals and poorest people, while gaining valuable experience (that stands out on a c.v.!).

This includes how you could join a PWG research expedition such as the August trip in which students will train as marine medics (and learn how to rescue dolphins, whales, turtles and manatees), develop their turtle village initiative, survey one of the world’s rarest dolphins and receive an unforgettable introduction to West African wildlife.
