Accommodation

Pendle College is located a short 5-10 minute walk from Alexandra Square – the heart of the University – where you’ll find the main Library, Learning Zone, banks, the Students’ Union offices and the admin centre of the University. Pendle is next to the Students’ Union’s Central corner shop and several cafes and takeaways.

The College also has plenty of space of its own, open surroundings and striking views of the distant hills. The College has one of the largest social areas on campus – Pendle Rooms is a separate building containing a bar, communal sitting room, games room, JCR office, small kitchen and music room.

As one of the larger colleges, we enjoy a diverse student population with equally diverse interests. Pendle houses 720 students in various types of accommodation. Each block is named after a village or town in the Pendle Borough area. The main Pendle quad is all bedrooms with shared accommodation. The south-west part of Pendle contains bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and self-contained studio flats.

Pendle Rooms

Pendle Rooms is Pendle College’s all-in-one bar and hangout space. On the ground floor is Pendle’s bar. The bar normally opens five nights a week during Michaelmas/Lent term and three evenings a week during Summer term. As well as stocking a wide range of bottled drinks the bar regularly hosts events and drinks offers; it really is the place to be.

On the first floor is a large open area with seating, table tennis and fussball tables and a kitchen. The tables can be moved, making the room perfect for hosting functions and events. Also on the first floor is the Sitting Room and Errington Room, which are both available to book. The Sitting Room comes complete with comfy chairs, beanbags, a TV and even a piano. The Errington Room is a long boardroom with lengthy tables, suitable for conferences.

Study Space

When not in use by clubs, societies and College meetings, the Errington Room is available for quiet study. There is further study space in the ISS PC Lab situated next to Pendle’s Launderette. The Library, the Learning Zone and PC Labs are all available for you to use free of charge, with many facilities open 24/7 during term time.

Kitchen Facilities

There is a kitchen located on the first floor of the social space. The kitchen includes a cooker, microwave, sink, fridges and freezers for use by Pendle students, in particular those travelling in from off-campus accommodation.

Locker Hire

Students who do not live on campus can hire a locker for the duration of the academic year, useful for storing belongings that you don’t want to carry with you all day. Lockers are limited and are available on a first come first served basis. Contact the College Manager for more information.

Mail

Mail can be collected from the lockable post boxes in the Porters' Lodge. Mail is alphabetised and placed in the box which corresponds to the first letter of your surname. A key is issued by Pendle Porters when you arrive to take up residence in Pendle College accommodation. All students, whether resident or not should check the unlocked pigeon-holes beneath the post boxes as internal mail is sent to students via this method. Parcels and bank cards are kept by the Porters for collection. A parcel list is displayed on the serving hatch window of the Lodge and parcels will be handed over on production of a student card.
