CREATING CD COMPANIONS

Date: Tuesday 15th July 1997

Time: please phone for details

Venue: Lancaster University Music Department

Format: A group tutorial on creating CD companions using the 'CD-Tour Generator' software.

As you may know, one of the most useful end products of the TLTP Music Consortium's work is a program called the CD-Tour Generator which enables staff and/or students to produce computer-based 'companions' to any commercial (or home produced) CD recording.

The software is free of charge to UK institutions of Higher Education and is designed to be easy to use, requiring no programming skills.

CTI Music is offering a group tutorial in the use of the CD Tour Generator. Participants will receive copies of the software and its documentation and will be guided through the techniques of producing a CD-Tour.

Do not expect to produce a finished tour in this session but please DO bring a CD of your choice. This tutorial will show you the way the program works and give you a feel for how to approach structuring your tour commentary. This is best achieved with a CD of music of the type you might wish to work with for real. If you are likely to want to refer to a score of the piece, please bring that along too - the benefits and limitations of the 'auto bar-numbering' feature are again easier to appreciate if you can refer them to something specific.

If you find the sound of several works playing at once very distracting, bring along some headphones (the sort with a mini jack plug) - though I think it is unlikely that we shall avoid playing CDs out loud for some of the time.

Places are strictly limited - if you are interested in attending on Tuesday, please contact us by phone (01524 593776 / 592614) or by email as soon as possible.

Please get in touch with us if you'd like any more information.

There will be a charge of £10 pounds per person for the tutorial.

Interested participants may find that they can claim travelling expenses from their University's Staff Development Fund.
