Graduation is a family affair for identical twins Laurence and Joel Pullan and their father Tim.
All three are graduates of Lancaster University - but 26 years apart.
Tim graduated with a degree in Computer Science in 1987 followed by his sons Laurence and Joel in 2013.
Originally from Derby, Tim loved Lancaster so much that he stayed in the area, where his sons both attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School.
The twins have made history by both being elected to office on campus ; first as Presidents of Pendle and Cartmel colleges and then at the Students’ Union (LUSU), where Joel is President and Laurence Vice President of Union Development.
Laurence said: “Joel and I originally had plans to study at opposite ends of the country, but one way or another we both ended up at Lancaster! It now seems good fortune that we did.
“We immersed ourselves in university life and loved getting involved with LUSU and the Colleges. It's brought a completely different side to University life for us both and it's been so enjoyable.”
Laurence even attended the same college – Pendle - as his father.
Tim said: “I enjoyed my time immensely, it felt like home very quickly. I was thrilled when both lads went to Lancaster. They have filled their time there with so many activities and responsibilities. Their mum Jane and I encouraged them to live on campus and soak in the full experience, they have had the best of both worlds really, far enough away to be independent yet close enough to come back for a decent meal and a free clothes wash!”
Both twins gained 2.1s, Laurence in English Language and Joel in Management and Organisation.
Tim said: “They have come out with a better level of degree than I did! They will also benefit from Lancaster being so highly regarded today. This opens many opportunities. For me it was like a well-kept secret how good the experience was but now everybody knows!”
