Hyde Technology College Head's Award
The University has been visited by students from Hyde Technology School annually for several years but on 14th December 2001 their visit to campus had an additional element - the school Head, Mr Barry Cooke, who has always accompanied his students, was retiring after 38 years of teaching and 21 of those years as a headteacher. Mr Cooke's commitment to teaching had been recognised the previous week with an Award for Lifetime Achievement presented during the Teaching Awards ceremony in London.
While Barry's students continued with their campus visit with members of the Schools & Colleges Liaison team, Roger Gould, Schools & Colleges Liaison Officer, took Barry to meet the Vice-Chancellor, who presented him with a gift on behalf of the University in recognition of his achievement. After retirement Barry is keen to continue his association with the University and the Schools and Colleges Liaison Office is exploring this opportunity.
