Vacation Internships in Mathematical Sciences

The Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Management Science at Lancaster University are offering three Vacation Internships for Summer 2024.

The internships are funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

EPSRC’s Vacation Internships scheme gives undergraduate students a taster of what it is like to do research. You will be given practical, first-hand experience of working on and carrying out research in a UK university. You will have a supervisor who will design the research project and meet with you regularly to discuss it, as well as opportunities to interact with staff and PhD students in the department.

An internship should generally take place in the summer vacation before your final year of study and will last an average of ten weeks. Students will be employed as interns during the period of their internship. All students undertaking Vacation Internships will receive payment equal to at least the national living wage even if they are aged below 25.

Eligibility

All students should be undertaking an undergraduate degree, which must be within EPSRC’s remit, and should be able to fulfil EPSRC’s doctoral training grant eligibility requirements at the end of their undergraduate degree.

The scheme may not be used as a bridge between the undergraduate degree and doctorate or other work, therefore students who are currently in their final year and who will have completed their degree by the summer are not eligible.

How to Apply

You should complete the online application form by the closing date of Friday 15th March, giving details of your current studies and your areas of interest for the project. If you wish, you may indicate up to three potential supervisors. You can find out about the research in the Mathematics and Statistics and Management Science departments on their websites.
