Representatives from Barclays will deliver a remote session for LUMS on Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) considerations in financial markets that may be of interest to you.

As companies around the world increasingly switch from unethical investments towards those that recognise the importance of social and environmental factors, this session delves deeper into Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing. The 45-minute session, followed by the opportunity for Q&A, will examine the context for ESG; the history of sustainability and its links with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The insight session will cover the bank’s own work in this area, as well as profiling other sectors, including client case studies illustrating key themes including net-zero, from a financing and investing perspective. The session will also look at the increasing number of jobs that are emerging in the ESG space.

The session is scheduled for May 2nd, 2.30-4.00pm and will include contributions from the following members of the Barclays team:

· Will Roberts – VP, Debt Finance, whose role includes focus on sustainable links to financing.

· Ian Chesham – Director, Private Bank, whose role includes a focus on sustainably linked investments.

· Lucy Eyers – Relationship Director, Public Sector, and a Barclays ESG Champion.

· Helen Robinson – Director, ESG Reporting & Disclosures.

· Louisa Chapman & Angela Potter – Barclays Relationship Directors for Lancaster University.

Ahead of the Barclays ESG session, Professor Mark Shackleton (Professor of Finance and member of the Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business) will provide a briefing on the key environmental and social concerns that ESG reporting and investor screening are hoping to address. This briefing is designed to enhance your experience of the Barclays event and provide some context for their work.

Mark’s session is scheduled for 2.00-2.20pm, May 2nd and will be available via the following Teams link (to be shared shortly).
