Dr Simone Corsi
Senior LecturerProfile
Simone joined Lancaster University Management School from Loughborough Business School, where he was Senior Lecturer in Strategy and Innovation. Prior to that, he spent five years working as a manager at the University of Manchester China Institute (2018-2019) and at the Lancaster University China Catalyst Programme (LCCP – 2014-2018), a £5 million Lancaster University project which aimed at creating and supporting R&D partnerships between UK and Chinese organisations. During his time at LCCP Simone advised more than 60 UK SMEs on their China strategy.
He obtained a PhD in Management from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna di Pisa (Italy)(2012), where he is a Research Affiliate at the Institute of Management.
His work has been published in such journals as The Journal of Product Innovation Management, British Journal of Management, R&D Management, Creativity and Innovation, Research-Technology Management.
He regularly reviews papers for leading journals in the fields of management, innovation, and international business. He is a member of the Editorial Review Board of R&D Management.
Beyond his research interests, Simone has worked extensively with Italian, UK and Chinese Government institutions to set up and deliver cooperation programmes and official business delegations.
Research Interests
With a research background in R&D and innovation management, I conduct research in the broad field of innovation studies. Specifically, I have two main research interests:
Global Innovation from the Global South: my most recent research projects in this area build on unequal exchange theory and neo-Gramscianism to contribute to the global sustainable innovation and decolonization of innovation discourses. Other projects in this area build on different management theories and concepts (e.g. RBV, upper echelons, geographic ambidexterity) to investigate and discuss the implications of the reverse innovation phenomenon as well as to identify its micro and macro determinants of reverse innovation.
University-Industry Collaboration: current projects look at the role of universities in steering and help SMEs navigate the funding and business support landscape. Other projects have adopted Triple Helix, Transaction Cost Economics, and the Uppsala Internationalization Model perspectives to investigate the role of universities as business internationalization platforms.
